In Memoriam
Russell C. Hansen
April 10, 1921 - November 14,
2002
A winter
resident of Fort Davis, Texas and summer resident of Lincoln, Vermont,
Russ Hansen died on November 14, 2002 at the Odessa Medical Center Hospital
in Odessa, Texas. Ten days earlier Russ had presented his “Birds in Flight”
slide lecture to an enthusiastic audience at the First Annual Balmorhea
Bird Festival, Balmorhea, TX. It is fitting that his final presentation
was so well received because sharing his photography with others was his
favorite activity. Russ is survived by his wife and partner, Marty; a son,
David L. Hansen, a daughter, Susan McArdle, and four grandchildren. A Memorial
Service celebrating Russ’s life was held on December 2, 2002 at the United
Church of Lincoln, Lincoln, Vermont.
A special
memorial exhibit of Russ’s work is currently on view at LightWorks,
Inc. in Burlington, Vermont. The exhibit is fabulous, the photos
are printed on a new Kodak®
metallic paper and they look like they are flying off the page!
Memorial
contributions, for those interested, can be sent to the Birds
of Vermont Museum, 900 Sherman Hollow Road, Huntington, Vermont
05462, where a permanent collection of Russ’s photographs are on view,
OR to Magicians-Without-Borders, 100 Geary Road, Lincoln, VT 05443,
an organization specializing in staging magic shows for poor people, especially
refugees, in foreign lands.
The
“Birds in Flight” traveling exhibit
is currently on view at The Roger
